This is a suburb of Cape Town on the Cape Flats. It is named  after the Belhar confession. The name is derived from the Dutch Reformed Mission Church here, which played a significant role in the community’s spiritual and social life. In 1986, the church produced the Belhar Confession, a theological statement opposing racial segregation within the church, which later became a symbol of resistance against apartheid. The Confession emphasized justice, reconciliation, and unity, values that have shaped the suburb’s identity. The suburb is a mixed-use, high-density residential project. The suburb is also known for its proximity to the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), attracting a large student population.
