The railway station that precipitated the development of Klawer was opened in 1914. This was established to service the Olifants River Valley.
The small town is named after a type of wild clover, Klawer is “clover” in Afrikaans. The plant springs up after the rains.
Klawer is at the Southern edge of the flower kingdom and is ablaze with colour during August and September, particularly after a good rainy season.
