Ottery

History of Ottery

Ottery is a residential suburb which was established in about 1904 when the railway line from Maitland reached there. Originally built as a private line, it was acquired by the Cape Government in 1908.

The name comes from the Otter Sanctuary which was opened here in the early 1900’s,  this was closed down when the neighbourhood expanded .
