White sand unspoiled beach

In 1695 some employees of the Dutch East India Company came upon the white beach  and called it Milk Bay. The village  grew up on the farm that was “Vlooibaai” which had been granted to a French Huguenot settler. The area was later called Mosterds Bay and had a series of other names before Strand was decided on in 1937.

Holiday destination since the mid-1800s

Many Anglo-Boer war veterans settled in the area and the area grew to be a popular fishing and holiday resort that has been visited by holidaymakers since the mid-1800s.
