False Bay Ecology Park

The False Bay Ecology Park (FBEP)  is 290 hectares of wetland park which is within the False Bay Nature Reserve, and it forms part of a network of protected wetlands that conserve global biological biodiversity.

FBEP is home to more than 300 plant species and at least 21 mammal species. It is a protected area that consists of 6 parts Rondevlei, Zeekoevlei, Strandfontein Birding Section, Pelican Park Section, Slangetjiebos Section, and Zandwolf Coastal Section. It forms part of a greater network of protected wetlands and the fauna and flora within them. The reserve is a great birdwatching venue, with over 240 bird species of which about 84 use the area for breeding. There are also reptiles and amphibians including the highly endangered western leopard toad The reserve is also home to 2 highly threatened butterfly species: the Barbers Cape Flats ranger and the unique ranger.
