Lovers walk

Walk along the riverside in Montagu

The 500-metre walkway alongside the Keisie River banks just below Kanonkop. It was built by a group of eight local farmers who were imprisoned by the British. They had refused to report the whereabouts of, Boer soldiers in the Montagu district during the Second Boer War. They were sentenced to three months of hard labour together with a fine of £50. Failing to pay the fine would result in an extra month of hard labour. They were put to work on the Lover’s walk path.

The trail also known as Mayors Walk forms part of the 1.9-km Badskloof Loop Trail, there are sheer cliffs on one side and the river on the other. Dogs are allowed off-leash on the first part of the walk but are not allowed on the nature walk at the end of the built-up ledge.

Entrance is free
