Beach in Blouberg

Kreeftebaai‘ Crayfish Bay’, It is a small rocky beach that is within the Blaauwberg Conservation Area, cray fishing is no longer permitted. This beach is now popular with locals. It is frequented by ‘anglers’, ‘dog walkers’ and ‘families. Children spend hours playing in the rock pools.

Kreeftebaai is on  Cape West Coast, off Otto du Plessis Drive between Melkbosstrand and Big Bay. It is accessible via a sandy parking area.

Signboards identify the beaches along this part of the coastline, but they are easily missed. It is best is to slow your car and when you see a parking area check the sign to see which beach it is.

Kreeftebaai is not suitable for swimming as the sea gets quite rough with strong currents. However, the rock pools are quite big and deep. The beach is less pleasant when it’s windy.

Walking along this beach alone is not recommended as muggings have been reported. It is better to visit the beach in groups, and also better to take your dog along with you.
