History of Brenton on Sea

Brenton on Sea is a popular holiday area, it was named after Sir Jaheel Brenton who declared Knysna as a harbour in 1818. This area is the last breeding colony of the endangered Brenton blue butterfly. This is the reason the area has remained largely undeveloped. The area has been declared a Special Nature Reserve to protect this species.
