. Harkerville’s history dates back to the early 19th century when it was part of the larger agricultural and forestry activities in the region. The area initially supported timber and farming operations, benefiting from its rich natural resources and favourable climate. The village was named after Robert Charles Harker, he was a Government resident, who controlled the affairs of Plett for about 21 years. The family graves can be seen at the cemetery when you do the Plettenberg Bay town day walk. Alternatively, there is the possibility that it was named after a “Hark” Dutch for rake which was an implement that would have been used on the farms.

The postcode for Harkerville is 6604
