Het Posthuys
The oldest post office in South Africa is in Muizenberg
Het Posthuys was originally erected in 1673 by the Dutch East India Company as a military observation post. Het Posthuijs is claimed to be one of the first buildings erected in the country. The restoration was undertaken in 1979. This single-story thatch roof structure was a military outpost, the purpose being to warn settlers of any invasion on the False Bay side. It was the first defense at the Battle of Muizenberg and the first British occupation of the Cape in 1795.
