At the start of industrialization in South Africa in about 1918, Andries Petrus Lubbe started a bridle and shoe repair business in Bird Street, Stellenbosch.  During the 1940’s he started experimenting with shoe manufacture. In 1956 the shoe factory opened near Du Toit Station in Stellenbosch. Exhibits at the museum chronicle shoe manufacture in the last 100 years.
