Natural tidal pool in Mossel Bay
The Blougat tidal pool on the point in Mossel Bay is set within rows of rocky reefs, they form a natural tidal pool. For many years local children have learned to swim in this pool. Chains and ropes have been secured across the pool to help swimmers if surging tides cause strong currents. The pool has a smooth sandy bottom and the Indian Ocean water is mild, enough for almost year-round bathing. At high tide, It is deep enough for diving. There is another tidal pool further toward the harbour.
