Cango Wildlife Ranch

Conservation Organization in Oudtshoorn

A trip to The Cango Wildlife Ranch will be filled with anticipation and eagerness to see what lies beyond the open jaws of the crocodile that greets you on arrival. Upon entering, guests are greeted by friendly volunteers who are ready to take you and your family on the tour through the ranch.

Legend has it that this once-lost valley was rediscovered in  2006. The valley is teeming with wild animals. An ancient tribe built a great temple. The Great Temple is now just a ruin today.   Perhaps human sacrifices were carried out here as there are statues of Nyami Nyami the river god guarding the entrance.

The valley was discovered and exploited after 1835 when diamonds were discovered and “crocodile safe” cages were lowered into the river in order to mine the diamonds. According to the legend, this upset the river god. However, for some reason, the valley was forgotten. Recently it has been opened for visitors who can take an interactive voyage to the historic site.

Among the animals, you could encounter are Malawian Cichlids, baby Nile Crocodiles, Cape Vultures, Lorikeets, Flamingos, Wallabies, and Madagascan Lemurs. Visitors can experience the sight of the Jumping Jaws demonstration where full-grown crocodiles leap from the water for their hand-fed lunch.

There are shops and restaurants and a children’s play area. Animal walkabouts, aviaries cliffs, islands, gorges, swinging bridges, underwater tanks, and tropical houses are all part of the exciting offering at this adventure park
