Cape Columbine nature reserve is usually called Tietiesbaai by the local people. The closest village is Paternoster. The reserve is the most Westerly part of the Western cape. It was declared as a reserve in 1973 and it covers 263 hectares mostly consisting of rocky coastline. The 80 m tall Cape Columbine lighthouse built on Castle rock in 1936 is, the last manned lighthouse to be constructed in South Africa and lies within the reserve.
