Easy walking trails along the green belt

Routes
The Constantia Green Belts occupy a couple of areas throughout the suburb. There are several trails where you can walk your dogs, even some of them where you can ride your horse. There is abundant birdlife to be seen.


De Hel Nature Area.De Hel Trail is a 2.7-kilometre heavily trafficked loop trail that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on a leash. This is an easy walk that will take about an hour. Park on Constantia Nek Road in the small parking area on the left when you come from Rhodes Drive. You will find more parking on Southern cross drive. There is a path around the valley. Small pathways lead off it towards streams along the way.
Alphen Trail
is an easy walk that takes about half an hour, take a drive off Constantia main road to Alphen Drive and head off along the path along the Diep River or start at Le Seur Avenue and walk the other way you can cross over the river on several bridges which allow you to explore both sides of the river. Brommersvlei trail. If you park on Rathfelder Avenue off Brommersvlei Road, head off along a tree-lined route down the road to the Bel Ombre meadow. This is an easy half-hour walk.  Diep River Trail. You can link up with the Alphen trail, the Bromersvlei walk, or the Klaasenbosch trail on this route from Le Sueur Avenue or Southern Cross Drive. The route follows the green belt you can join the other routes or return the same way at a steady pace this will take about half an hour.   Doordrift Walk is a half-hour walk that begins at the same spot as the Alphen trail but heads off in the opposite direction. You can of course park on Doordrift Road and follow the route in the other direction.                                                  Grootboschkloof Trail. Park on Strawberry Lane Spaanschemat River Road or Willow Road and walk alongside the river. This is not a circular route, but you can link up to the Spaanschemat River Trail. The basic walk takes just under half an hour.  Klaasenbosch Trail. Park near the Kirstenbosch top gate or at Cecelia Forest, at the lower side you can park on Le Sueur Avenue or Hohenort Avenue, This hour-long trail passes through the Cellars-Hohenort Hotel which is great for a rest stop or a destination
Easy.  Silverhurst Trail Park at Peddlars on the Bend on Spaaschemat River Road or at the other end of the trail on Constantia Nek Road you can enjoy this 40-minute easy walk which is popular with horse riders. A word of caution for dogs who are not familiar with horses.   Spaanschemat River Trail. Park on Spaaschemat River Road or Strawberry Lane From this trail you can link with the Grootboschkloof Trail at the other end of the Spaaschemat trail, this should not take much longer than half an hour. Doordrift Walk This half-hour walk begins at the same spot as the Alphen trail but leads in the opposite direction.  Park on Doordrift Road and follow the route in the opposite direction. Cecelia forest hike is about 4.3 kilometres. It’s not a casual stroll and it takes about 2 hours. It starts at the Cecilia Plantation car park along Rhodes Drive, opposite the Hohenort Avenue turn-off, The path can be slippery after the rain, however finding the waterfall which is best after rain is a great reward the water gushes over ferns and green moss.
