Duck parade at Vergenoegd Low Wine Estate
Vergenoegd was established in 1696 at the foot of the Helderberg Mountain Range. Vergenoegd Löw is an award-winning wine estate where heritage meets innovation.
Watch the “duck parade” around the estate. The farm uses over 1,000 Indian Runner Ducks to move freely around the estate to eat any snails and bugs.
Visitors are invited to visit the Vergenoegd duck pens and “breeding room” There are also plenty of other birdwatching opportunities on the farm. Ornithologists are welcome.
A small donation is collected on arrival which may be redeemed against any purchase from the farm. The funds go towards the Integrated Pest Management and Duck Research Programme, the results of which will be made available to other vineyards or farms around the world that may opt for natural pest control by Runner Ducks.
Enjoy a meal or snack on the estate at Geuwels Restaurant or Clara’s Barn, a restaurant in the oldest barn in the Western Cape.
