Fonteinhuis museum

Jongensfontein history

The Fonteinhuis Museum depicts the history of Jongensfontein. It is located close to the swimming beach at Jongensfontein. The building was originally constructed in 1940 by two well-known townspeople Wouter and Tobietta Du Preez. It is built from stones which were found on the beach. An anchor from the wreck of the Rezeki, stranded at Jongensfontein in 1971 is displayed outside the house. This style of building is common in the area. The conversion of the little building into a museum was made possible by a once-off fundraising effort by holidaymakers.
