Garden Route National Park
The Garden Route National Park is an example of ‘conservation without boundaries’ that spans an impressive 121 000 hectares and includes the existing Wilderness and Tsitsikamma national parks. Also the Knysna Lakes area and roughly 52 000 hectares of newly proclaimed land. SANParks believes that it is in essence a new conservation model for the country, particularly if you consider the over 1 000 private landowners who border the park and the need to create stewardship programmes that encourage these residents of the Garden Route to help conserve the natural heritage of the area.
There are several beaches to visit within the Garden Route National Park. There is an entirely pebbled beach at the Storms River suspension bridge. When you’ve crossed over the bridge, you reach this pebbled area. You will hear the thunderous sound of the waves rolling the pebbles up and down the shore
There is a short 30-minute hike on a wooden boardwalk to get to this beach. This short hike is known as the mouth trail.
