Gourikwa Reserve covers an area of 2,455 hectares. It is one of the largest private nature reserves along the South African coastline.  With 5km of pristine coastline, a rich variety of indigenous fauna and flora. Gourikwa was once made up of 4 adjacent farms known as Buffelshoek. The Atomic Energy Corporation bought the land in 1980, with a view to establishing a nuclear energy plant. The project was eventually abandoned as it was too expensive. The area was sold in 1994, . The present owners purchased the reserve in 2015. There are facilities ranging from top-class accommodation to a beachfront chapel and a state-of-the-art wedding facility.
