The original Greenpoint stadium was built in 1897 It had a banked concrete cycle track which was sometimes used for motor racing. It had a lap distance of 586 yards. Within this track, the field was used for athletics. The new stadium was built on part of a golf course, it took 33 months to complete. The stadium seats 55000 spectators. In the facility are 600 toilets, 16 lifts, and 115 entry points. The new stadium is called Inkundla Yezemidlalo YaseKapa, in Xhosa Afrikaners call it the Kaapstad Stadion. But many simply call it New Green Point Stadium The open roof was designed for airflow and to allow light inside, The thick glass panels prevent strong rains and winds from hindering, matches or performances. Today, it is used for a number of sporting and entertainment events. It is equipped with modern corporate hospitality suites, conferencing, and banqueting facilities  The stadium is connected to the waterfront by a new road connection, Granger Bay Boulevard. Cape Town Stadium is the 5th biggest stadium in South Africa; the biggest in Cape Town.
