Hangklip lighthouse
Lighthouse between Pringle bay and Rooi Els
This 22-metre-high lighthouse was built in only 6 days. The lighthouse tower has been keeping ships and sailors safe since it was turned on in 1960. a telemetry system was installed in 1986 so that it could be monitored from Cape Point. It is powered by a triple-diesel mutual alternator. The optic shines a revolving electric light with a candle power of 800,000 CD across the Atlantic Ocean every 10 seconds. It is visible for 25 nautical miles.
The Hangklip Lighthouse Trail starts from a parking lot at Maasbaai Slipway. It’s about six hundred metres down a good dirt track from the paved High Level Road. The hike is 3.6 kilometres and takes about an hour.
