The Harmony Flats Nature Reserve on the Cape Flats lies between Strand and Gordon’s Bay. It is one of the City of Cape Town’s 17 nature reserves. It protects a surviving fragment of critically endangered Lourensford Alluvium Fynbos vegetation. The City of Cape Town now has permanent biodiversity management staff tending to the needs of the area. Restoration of the previously degraded veld is a priority. It is hoped that in time the tortoises that the reserve was originally created to protect will again be able to frequent the area.
