Helderberg Nature Reserve
Helderberg Nature Reserve was originally proclaimed on 23 September 1960. It was initially a wildflower garden. Today, the 402-hectare reserve supports the protection of critically endangered Swartland shale Renosterveld and Kogelberg sandstone fynbos, as well as the vulnerable Cape Winelands shale fynbos and pockets of the least threatened Southern afro-temperate forest. The Helderberg Nature Reserve has a “no-bin policy” and visitors must remove all rubbish they bring in with them. The reserve is a wonderful place to have a picnic however no braai or gas-burning equipment is allowed. There are several walks in the Reserve, ranging from 2.2km to a 7-hour hike. Look out for the popular “Concerts in the Park
