Herold’s Bay tidal pool
The tidal pool at Herold’s Bay is massive. There is plenty of space for families to splash around, and even space to do a few laps. The water is a little warmer in the tidal pool than that in the sea. There are no currents keeping it moving so the sun can warm the pool. The waves do splash into it at high tide.
The pool teeming with life, which makes it great to explore. Bring your snorkel along to watch the little fish and crustaceans in their own habitat.
Near the Voelklip parking area, there is a rock pool that is well worth a visit. It requires an easy 2 km walk through trees up the hill till you get to a parking area known as Voelklip Viewpoint. If you walk to the edge of the parking lot and a short walk downwards will lead to the pool. The pool is icy cold and very deep. It is great for a swim in calm water. During High tide, however, the pool is not so safe.
There are in fact, two tidal pools and a lovely bay with a beach and there is a short walk up to a viewpoint overlooking the bay. The bigger one was built by the George municipality in 1935.
