Krans Nature Reserve
Nature reserve outside McGregor
The Krans Nature Reserve is situated just outside McGregor, it is being developed with the co-operation of the local municipality. Funds have been donated by Rowland and Leta Hill for WWF South Africa. The reserve is part of the commonage, of McGregor, and is available to all villagers for grazing livestock.
Originally the site was used as a dump. Old bottles, blue glass, and other items are still found. Early Iron Age people also must have used the path that runs along the edge of the reserve when moving from the coastal plain into the Little Karoo. Artefacts have been found here by archaeologists. Fossilised plants are also found in some of the rocks.
