Maclear Beach
Maclear Beach is one of Cape Town’s quieter and more secluded beaches, Maclear Beach lies close to Cape Point at the tip of the Cape Peninsula.
Hidden behind rocky headlands, you can get to the beach from the car park through somewhat overgrown fynbos vegetation. The beach is marked by the famous Cape Point sign marking the most south-westerly point in Africa.
Facing west onto the Atlantic the water at Maclear Beach is quite cold. The beach is sheltered and shallow. Swimming is therefore safe. However, the most popular activities on Maclear Beach are diving and fishing. Fishing is good here, both crayfish and predatory yellowtail kingfish can be fished out, but permits are required.
There is not much beach at high tide, however, low tide exposes rock pools that are safe for young children.
Maclear Beach is within a national conservation area where plants and animals are protected.
