Local history in Porterville

The museum highlights the town’s history and features Khoisan displays. The museum was named after the leader of the first expedition that traveled through this area in 1660. The building was built in 1879 and was initially used as a courthouse and prison. There is also a permanent exhibition of rock painting art from the Groot Winterhoek mountains.
