Matjies river nature reserve
Reserve near Clanwilliam
The Matjies river nature reserve is a semi-arid area that also contains some excellent examples of the region’s geological (dating back 300 million years ago) and archaeological heritage (5000-300 years old), including the imposing Stadsaal cave, and rare San rock art depicts elephants. There is also the Truitjieskraal interpretive trail. A permit is required to visit these attractions and is available for purchase at the Cape Nature offices or at any private tourism offices in the Cederberg Conservancy.
