Milnerton Racecourse
Milnerton Racecourse is owned and managed by Gold Circle. The racecourse is not used for races anymore, however, it is still used for the training and stabling of racing horses.
.A large part of the land around the race track was sold for the development of the Royal Ascot residential development. The land inside the race tracks was kept by the City of Cape Town for nature conservation use. This conservation land used to be called the Royal Ascot Conservation Area, but is now the Milnerton Racecourse Nature Reserve.
Two small permanent wetlands are also found on the site, and during winter, much of the area is inundated by water. This provides habitat for a variety of birdlife, and more than 70 species have been recorded. At least ten species of butterflies and moths have also been observed
This land lying within the track of the Milnerton Racecourse has remained untouched by development. It is also free of invasive alien plant species because the tall alien trees that would obstruct the views of the running horses were removed.
