Montagu mountain reserve
The 2000 hectares Mountain Reserve adjoins the north, west, and southern boundaries of the town. It comprises some extreme topography, and pristine flora and fauna. As it is so close to town it is within easy walking distance. The area is popular with hikers and there are several plotted trails. Rock climbing is also popular here as there are 200 bolted routes in the reserve. Several of the town’s well-known tourist landmarks are within the reserve, such as Kanonkop, Eyssenhuis, Loverswalk, Klipspringer Cabins, Badskloof, Donkerkloof, Cogmanskloof, Keurkloof, and Aasvoelkrans. Fort Sidney and the tunnel at Cogmanskloof are within the reserve boundaries.
