Montagu Museum
Montagu Museum is housed in a beautiful church with neo-Gothic elements, built in 1907, The Museum was established in 1975 and the building was declared a National Monument in 1976. The main aim of the Montagu Museum is to research and portray the cultural-historical heritage of Montagu. The building adjoining the church contains a comprehensive collection of historical documents and photos relating to Montagu and its people.
Built in 1853 the oldest surviving dwelling in Montagu is Joubert house,(at no 25) This is a small museum that is beautifully furnished to look like it did in the old days. This museum was declared a National Monument in 1975 and was reopened by the State President in 1983. There is also a very interesting nursery at the museum with many indigenous medicinal plants for sale. 023 614 1774
The KWV buildings that are on the corner of Long and Kohler Streets were acquired in the 1990s These buildings are fine examples of the historical industrial architecture of the area.
There is a permanent exhibition of a collection of agricultural vehicles and artefacts in the enclosed courtyard behind the complex, as well as Art in the recently opened KWV Art Gallery.
