Nelson’s cave

Cave at Pinnacle point

 

Archaeological excavations at Pinnacle Point, Klaasies Cave, Blombos Cave, and Nelson’s Cave on the Robberg peninsula have established that modern homo sapiens originated from this area from a small population of less than one thousand individuals. These early inhabitants survived an ice age here as this area was not as harsh as other places. They mostly lived on shellfish. This group of early humans is believed to have lived here between 150,000 and 200,000 years ago. These sites in the Southern Cape have been nominated as world Heritage sites
