Pier place square
Open square in Cape Town City
Pier Place Square is an open cobbled area on Heerengragt Street. The significant thing about the square is the life-size bronze statues by Egon Tania, who is a Dutch sculptor, who recently settled in Cape Town.
The statues show everyday life from a man reading his paper on the edge of one of the benches to another on his cell phone. There is a statue of a young lady standing under a tree with her hands on her waist. Also depicted are a couple of children playing with their bikes.
.Pier Place on Heerengracht Street, Foreshore is named after the jetty of that name. It is now surrounded by high-rise buildings and highways. Many Capetonians spend their lunchtimes in this attractive space sitting on the benches and watching the busy city.
