Preekstoel beach
Preekstoel beach is on the wild west coast. The Benguela current keeps the water really cold and the wind off the Atlantic can also be quite wild. This is where untamed nature meets beautiful open fynbos fields. The west coast is the best place to enjoy the wildflower season in August and September. In the surroundings, you may see the occasional ostrich among the whitewashed cottages. There is a 25-kilometre-long stretch of white sand along this part of the West Coast. The “Preekstoel” or teachers’ pulpit provides shelter from the wind. The water is only waist-deep for a way out. This beach has blue flag status.
There are great braai spots overlooking the Langebaan Lagoon. These braais are available on a first-come, first-served basis so get there early.
Kraalbaai is at the lagoon where houseboats are moored with a wooden jetty that juts out over the waters.
