Rust-en-Vrede gallery and clay museum

Heritage site and gallery in Durbanville

The Rust-en-Vrede was built in the 1840s as a prison and police quarters. This building also served as a magistrate’s court and a private dwelling. It was later purchased by the municipality. The building has been a national monument since 1984.  Rust en Vrede features a tranquil garden and a quaint restaurant. The venue is also the home of the only clay museum in the Western Cape and houses a mosaic studio, a jeweler, a design studio, and a florist. The Whisky Library is also here.
