Scarborough beach
This long stretch of beach on the Atlantic side is a great spot and even during summer it rarely feels crowded. The beach is popular with traditional surfers and kite-surfers. The best time to go is when the wind is blowing east or northeast; when it is more southerly, it’s better for kitesurfing. Just make sure you watch out for strong rip currents, as they are frequent at Scarborough Beach.
There are often big waves and rip currents, so swimming is better on calm days. There are however plenty of rock pools to explore. Sand dunes at the back of the beach make up a seasonal wetland area. There are boardwalks that wind through these dunes. The area is relatively untouched, wild and backed by high craggy peaks. The beach sits at the edge of the Cape Point nature reserve and can be accessed from the main road along a sandy track. You can also drive towards Soetwater Resort and from the car park. you can reach the beach. Dogs are allowed to run here without a leash. There is a boat launch available to permit holders but there are no other public facilities here.
