South African Naval Museum

Maritime museum in Simon's Town

Simon’s Town has been a naval base for nearly three centuries. First the British Royal Navy and then The South African Navy. The base provides support for the fleet. The Dutch East India Company established a dockyard in Simon’s Town in 1743 which was taken over by the British in the 1790s. A pair of stone storehouses built by the Dutch East India Company on the seafront in the 1740s is now the home of the South African Naval Museum.
