Strand Beach
Strand Beach is at the foot of the Hottentots Holland Mountains on the Eastern coast of False Bay. The beach stretches for 5 kilometres past rock pools which make this a good place for children to play. Surfing is very popular at the Strand, particularly with beginners,
. The word Strand is beach in Afrikaans so Strand beach is Beach Beach. It is one of the most popular beaches along the Kogelberg Coastline. It is very popular for swimming and other watersports. Melkbaai Beach is alongside the two often being referred to as one and the same although they are quite different from each other. The main beach is the section of the beach starting north of Melkbaai and running further north to the mouth of the Lourensrivier.
The beach is approximately 3 km in length and is pretty flat, with a soft sandy texture, making it ideal for sunbathing and long walks. The shore break is also very shallow going out some distance before it drops off into deeper water, which is why this beach is so popular for swimming. There is also a tidal pool at this beach.
Towards the Lourens River surfing is more popular as the swells are bigger.
There are lifeguards on duty at this beach which has a boat launch slipway, plenty of parking, ablution facilities, and picnic areas. Fishing is allowed but a license is required.
