Suicide Gorge
Suicide Gorge is an adventure recommended only for hardy and experienced hikers. It is in the Hottentot’s Holland Mountains, close to Grabouw. You will climb high up into the mountains, and then down. Most of the 16.2km route involves slip-sliding along with a natural waterslide, and at certain points, you’ll be required to leap off cliffs, so this hike is not for the faint of heart. Suicide Gorge must be tackled with a registered kloofing guide Ask Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve’s management what to do in case of emergencies., They have special procedures. Only 30 people are allowed inside the reserve per day so be sure to book: No children under 12 are allowed and; the reserve is closed from May to October. Dogs are not allowed in the reserve.
The nearby 15km Riviersonderend Trail offers a similar challenge on the same river but with lower drops – the highest being a more manageable seven metres
