The Duiwenhoks River

 The Duiwenhoks River drains the Langeberg Mountains and flows south from Heidelberg,  to the coast, making its way through fynbos-covered hills past the hamlet of Vermaaklikheid.   The Duiwenhoks River becomes an estuary and runs into the Indian Ocean, through a large lagoon. between Stilbaai and Witsand. The river is approximately 83 km long with a catchment area of 1,340 km2. The river is dammed at Duiwenhoks Dam roughly halfway between Barrydale and Riversdale
