The Eerste River rises on the Dwarsberg 60 km east of Cape Town. The catchment area consists of the eastern part of the Cape Flats west of the Hottentots Holland Mountains and south of the Tygerberg hills. It is a short river, just 40 km. The major tributary, The Kuils River, is about 30 km long to its point of confluence with the Eerste River. The river flows into the sea at Macassar.
