The Klein River Mountains

The Kleinrivier Mountains are part of the Cape Fold Belt and are named after the river in the area that reaches the sea near Hermanus.

The range begins near Hermanus and continues East/Northeast towards Stanford and ends at the Akkedisberg Pass. The highest peak in the range is Maanskynkop (964m which dominates the coastline of Walker Bay. The climate is mild with cool moist breezes flowing off the sea. Rain falls mainly in the winter months. The Babilonstoring mountains are part of the Klein River mountains however even though this section is smaller, the peaks are somewhat higher with their highest point reaching 1167m. The mountains can be seen from Caledon. Shaw’s mountain pass crosses the range on the R320
