The Koggelberg mountains
The Kogelberg mountains run along the False Bay coast. They form part of the Cape Fold Belt, The range begins south of the Elgin Valley, and the mountains form steep coastal slopes all the way to Kleinmond.
The Kogelberg mountains have the steepest and highest drop directly into the ocean anywhere in South Africa. The mountains consist mostly of Table Mountain Sandstone with the rugged terrain covered in fynbos, Specifically Cape sandstone Fynbos. A large part of the mountains are protected and within the huge Kogelberg Nature Reserve.
The mild climate is Mediterranean, It is cooler here because of the sea breezes blowing off the South Atlantic. Snow is sometimes seen on the highest peaks during the winter months. The highest mountain in the range is Koeëlberg ( Bullet Mountain ) at 1289m just above Koeël Bay.
