The Simonsberg mountains
The Simonsberg range is named after Simon van der Stel who was the first governor of the Cape. It is part of the Cape Fold Belt and is located between the towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek, The highest peak in the range stands at 1399 m, The Simonsberg range is detached from the other ranges in the Winelands region. The mountains have 7 caves which were left after a silver mining project was abandoned.
