TOP SECRET” Tunnel and Bunker Adventures

Adventure walk under the city of Cape Town

Did you know there were tunnels underneath Cape Town’s busy streets and that you could go on a tour through these old water tunnels? Cape Town was known by the indigenous San people, as Camissa meaning ‘the place of sweet waters. It is this water that Jan Van Riebeek needed for the Dutch settlement in 1652. The run-off from Platteklip and Silverstroom Gorge converges at the foot of Table Mountain and forms the ‘Varsche Rivier’, which runs down the mountain and is discharged into the sea. The Settlers built tunnels to channel the water and bring it into the town. This freshwater supply was one of the main reasons Cape Town was chosen as a refreshment station.

Today these historic Canals with their impressive architecture convey the sweet waters of Table Mountain and some Spring Water into the ocean. Follow the river that runs off Table Mountain to the Castle of Good Hope.

If you would like to experience a walk below the Fort and in the tunnels here is an exclusive guided Tour not to be missed. By appointment only. Discover the hidden secrets that have been locked up for many years in its dark underground network of Tunnels and Bunkers.
