Unfinished highway
This construction was originally intended for the Eastern Boulevard Highway in the city bowl. It was Conceptualised and designed in the late 1960s. Work began in the early 1970s. It was aimed at alleviating future traffic congestion in the city expected in the future. However, due to budget constraints in city expenditure at the time, the project never came to completion and has stood in its unfinished state since construction officially ended in 1977 The structure has become a quirky tourist attraction. It is also a popular movie and fashion shoot location.
A story in 2016 proposed that” The city’s infamous Foreshore freeway bridge, unfinished for nearly four decades, could soon be connected to the N1. Connecting the bridge to a road that runs onto the N1 is currently part of a five-year plan for the city to alleviate its traffic congestion.
