Uniondale MTB trails
De Hoop Road
This is a 40 km out-and-back route, from Uniondale, ride through the Poort to the top of the hill, turn left onto the dirt road signposted “De Hoop”. If you follow it to the top hill You do not need to be very fit or skilled for this trail but it is really scenic. If you continue down the hill for a further 20kms to the farm gate, you will require a much higher fitness level and more ability as the obstacles are more challenging.
For the Kammannassie Road
For this trail you need to be fairly fit and quite skilled, this is a very pleasant route; go as far as you like, then turn around. However, do not underestimate this road no matter how far you go. Take a lot of water in summer and it is best to leave early in the morning.
The Wagon Trail from Uniondale to Avontuur
This is a High-skill, high-fitness trail The 12km to Avontuur is a hard ride. The climb out of Lyonville is rough in the saddle as the road surface is also loose and steep. You are challenged to ride it without dabbing. Pace yourself. The gravity-fed descent is easy to miscalculate with its rocks and water mitigation ridges. Beware of being thrown off the saddle down a 100m drop.
You can either return the way you came or take the tar road through the Uniondale Poort and back to town. If you feel tough you can extend this ride over to De Vlugt before coming back on the same route. The route crosses private property, so please contact the owners for permission.
