Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve
Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve lies in the Breede River
valley, The landscape here is rugged sandstone with underlying
shale formations. The vegetation in this rocky part of the Little Karoo is
known as the arid Robertson Karoo. Succulents that abound here are trees and shrubs such as guarri,
karee and melkbos. The animals you will see are Klipspringer, grysbok, grey rhebok, and springbok are common at Vrolijkheid. Birds are well represented with 175 species including the jackal buzzard, African and pale chanting goshawk plus the spectacular black and African fish eagles. The dams here also attract waterbirds. There are pathways in the wildflower garden and 5 thatched gazebos for picnics.
The Braille Trail
This trail follows the first kilometre of the Heron Trail leading to the first bird hide. There are boards with interesting information in braille along the route.
