Waenhuiskrans cave

Cave in Arniston

Waenhuiskrans means waggon house cliff. It is said that the cave is so named because it is so big that an ox wagon could do a full turn inside it. The Waenhuiskrans cave lies just off the shore of Arniston. Follow the rather tricky walk past the Cape Nature signposts to the Waenhuiskrans Nature Reserve. You can only access the cave at low tide. Even then you have to wade through shallow water to get to the cave entrance. Be careful of slippery seaweed. Once you are at the cave you will need to crawl through a small opening at the back of the cave to get into the bigger cave. There are rock pools to explore on the way
