Woodstock cave
This large cave can be seen from De Waal Drive It forms a long horizontal crack in the side of Devils Peak mountain. The cave is 50 metres wide and 15 metres deep. The view from the site is stunning and the short (one-hour) hike is scenic. In the wintertime, a waterfall forms at the upper lip of the cave. When hiking this way in summer, beware of snakes.
Access the cave from Tafelberg Road past the lower cable car station. Past the metal gate, the hike meanders up the slope. You can begin at the Rhodes Memorial parking area and take the path toward the King’s Blockhouse. This stretch is quite strenuous. From here on, follow the contour path. The moderate walk is a short series of zigzags along a path that is rough underfoot, so be sure to wear appropriate boots You can reach it from either Rhodes Memorial or from Tafelberg Road; both routes offer wonderful views of the city below.
